Reviews

The reviews for Top Dawg Grooming highlight a consistent level of customer satisfaction, particularly regarding the quality of grooming services and the staff's professionalism and friendliness. Many customers commend the groomers for their meticulous attention to detail in haircuts and overall grooming, resulting in pets that look great and receive compliments. The positive experiences include enjoyable drop-off and pick-up processes, with staff making efforts to keep pets calm and comfortable, with some customers expressing a desire to return and recommend the shop to others. However, one negative review stands out, criticizing unprofessional practices related to location and communication, which contrasts sharply with the overwhelmingly positive feedback from most customers.

Amin did the best grooming job I have ever had for my 3y old dog…I just took her to him for the first time today and she looked and smelled amazing. He even put a cute little pink bow in her hair. The attention to detail on the actual haircut itself was spot-on…not too short, bringing out her facial features, and clean and tidy everywhere else. We’ll definitely be back and be telling all our pup friends.

Running an unprofessional business out a house. The owner texted me 15 minutes before my appointment changing the address. Went to the new address that was a home in not the best area. Smoke was being blown out the windows, music was blaring. Did not feel comfortable leaving my dog here and called the owner to tell him so. He did not give back my deposit even though he falsely advertised where his shop was.

I took my 6-month old cavapoo, Frida, to TopDawg for her first haircut. Frida looked like Pigpen from the Peanuts cartoons before her cut - a typical dirty puppy. Now, she looks great! The entire booking, drop-off, and pickup process was very easy. The guy I talked to and who cut Frida, maybe the owner, was very friendly and so kind and patient with the nervous dog getting its nails done before my appointment. I’ll certainly be returning!

I recently just moved to South Philly, and needed to find a groomer closer to home. Looked at reviews online and found Top Dawg. I was able to grab an appointment two days later before the holiday, great service, love the way Tyson's haircut turned out! I rarely write reviews but was incredibly pleased with the service, and highly recommend this shop. Tyson looks amazing , and finding a groomer with this level of attention to detail is rare. Going to a new groomer is always a roll of the dice but it paid off !

Amazing job! Amine (I apologize if i misspelled that), did such a great job with my samoyed! She came in need of a deep wash, sanitary trim, and detangling of knots in her legs. I wanted my babygirl to return to her beautiful self and TopDawg delivered!! My baby’s fur flows in the wind! Sheesh! She got compliments immediately as we left the groomers. I can’t stop running my hands through her fur. I def recommend this shop - especially if you live in South Philly! We will be returning customers☺️

Brought my yorkie in for a grooming after several months of at home care, and I was thrilled with the results. The staff was so kind, accommodating and did such a great job! Easy pick up/drop off, the staff was very nice, shop was very clean and just over all a great experience. And great competitive pricing! Annie got the top dawg special which included: full body hair cut, shampoo / conditioner (they have a sensitive skin one) teeth brushed, anal glands, nail grind, ear and eyes cleaned up! She looks and smells amazing, thank you! Took about two hours since they had a few dogs ahead, they called me with 20 min to pick her up and when I got there she was ready to go and they had someone who could check me out ready to go. No waiting around or anything. Everything was wonderful and I’m glad I found them!

I took my boy, Benji to this grooming salon and they did a wonderful job with him. After being turned away by other groomers, who shall not be named, I did some research and found this company. My puppy has a very high energy level, and is not completely accustomed to the grooming process. They welcomed my boy with open arms. What I also appreciated was the groomer keeping me updated during the process. I was so happy with his haircut! They have gained a loyal customer, and I’m most definitely referring my family and friends.

Justina at the 60th and Lansdowne Ave location cut my dog Miss Panini Chow Bella. She gave her a Lion Cut and OMG, she looked beautiful and smelled good. While skittish upon arrival, she had warmed up to the groomer as if they were best friends by the time I picked her up (2) hours later. Justina was so nice and had such a warm and inviting personality yet she was professional in her approach. I was so impressed with the experience and service that I will be bringing my other dog in a week.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cat Grooming

What should I expect during a professional cat grooming session?

A typical professional cat grooming session usually begins with a consultation to discuss your cat's needs. The groomer will then examine your cat's coat and skin condition before proceeding with services like brushing to remove loose fur, bathing with cat-specific shampoo, blow-drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and any specialized haircuts if needed. Most sessions take between 1-2 hours depending on your cat's coat condition and temperament.

How should I prepare my cat for a grooming appointment?

To prepare your cat for grooming, brush them at home a few days before to remove loose fur and minor tangles. Keep your cat in a secure carrier for transportation. Arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork and allow your cat time to adjust to the new environment. Bring information about your cat's health, temperament, and any areas they're sensitive about. For anxious cats, consider withholding food for 2-3 hours before the appointment to reduce the risk of stress-related nausea.

Why is professional cat grooming important?

Professional cat grooming is important for several reasons: it reduces shedding and hairballs, prevents painful matting, allows early detection of skin issues or parasites, keeps your cat's coat healthy and shiny, reduces dander (helpful for allergy sufferers), and maintains proper hygiene. Professional groomers have specialized tools, products, and techniques to safely handle cats, even those with behavioral challenges. Regular grooming also helps cats become more comfortable with handling, which is beneficial for veterinary visits.

How often should my cat be professionally groomed?

The frequency of professional grooming depends on your cat's coat type, length, and lifestyle. Long-haired breeds like Persians typically need grooming every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting. Medium-haired cats may need grooming every 6-8 weeks, while short-haired cats might only need professional attention every 8-12 weeks or during seasonal shedding periods. Cats with special conditions like obesity or arthritis that prevent self-grooming may need more frequent appointments. Your groomer can recommend an appropriate schedule based on your cat's specific needs.

What's the difference between cat and dog grooming?

Cat grooming differs significantly from dog grooming. Cats have more sensitive skin, requiring gentler handling and cat-specific products. Their grooming sessions are typically shorter to minimize stress. Cats often need specialized restraint techniques and quieter environments. Cat groomers use different tools designed for feline coats and are trained to recognize signs of stress unique to cats. Cat-only grooming facilities eliminate the anxiety many cats experience around dogs, creating a more comfortable experience for your feline friend.
