Many customers appreciate the easy booking and communication process, noting their pets appear happy and well-groomed upon pickup. While some positive experiences emphasize the establishment's ability to cater to individual grooming requests and build rapport with the dogs, there are notable complaints regarding pricing transparency, unexpected fees, and inconsistent service quality on different days. Love Downtown Doghouse! Veronica who grooms our mini schnauzer is so good we travel from Brooklyn to have her groom him. Booking appointments is very easy over text and payment is always easy and safe. Always attentive to our grooming requests and Alfie always looks great and is very happy after his appointment.

I've had good experiences coming here with my Pekingese. The Asian man (unsure of his name) is friendly and always does a great job - I would say Nino gets one of better cuts he's had from him. I'm unsure how competitive the pricing is - I've only taken Nino here as well as the Unleashed Spa in the East Village, and those two places are priced similarly - but I've always been happy and intend to continue to bring my pup here as it's closer to my house than Unleashed, and he always gets the same groomer which is a bonus. EDIT: took a star off as my dog's rear paws appear irritated. He is chewing them obsessively for the fourth day now. Unsure what happened, seems they really irritated him with the clippers. Will have to take him to the vet.

Our labradoodle Hudson has gone to Veronica a few times and she does the best job! He gets very excited to see her and it’s evident she really cares about him/his well-being. Back in February, Hudson was very matted from the snow and rain and we were left with no (ethical) choice but to shave him pretty short. I was sad at first as we loved all his fluff, but in the end it was the right decision. Now it’s growing back in nicely and Veronica’s cuts will help us maintain his beautiful coat moving forward! Easy scheduling and they text you when your pup is ready. There are many groomers but I can assure you that many don’t care about your dog in the way Downtown Doghouse does. They listen to what you want too and will work with you so there are no surprises! Plus, it’s great to have the same groomer each time so your dog gets accustomed to him/her.

Downtown Doghouse: top-notch team and business that truly cares about their clients. Even though it's a bit tedious/round-about for me to travel here, the service and cuts they provide are *chef's kiss* and is 100% worth the extra commute effort! Well-oiled appointment and payment process, timely and responsive staff: it's super easy to make appointments via text. We were looking for someone in the city specializing in Asian Fusion Grooming, and found Downtown Doghouse / Veronica. Great reputation: many of our fellow NYC doggo families are regulars here, and our dog trainer highly recommends them. While our anxiety-prone dog is typically nervous during drop-off, post-groom she always looks so happy about her new look(s)! We fully trust Downtown Doghouse/Veronica with Bongbong.

This place has bad business practices and is a rip off. They quote my dog as small and say it will cost $110, I agree and use them for a grooming. My dog is only 24 lbs, qualified as small by petco and any small dog park, pet insurance etc but after grooming they say my dog is actually medium sized thus I need to pay $160 instead of $110 over the phone to their operator. On top of that, they don't include nail trimming or toothbrushing, each of those is $10 additional. And then they ask me to pay with credit card when I had cash then they without telling me charge me $9 credit card fee but they won't accept my cash, only a check which I didn't have to avoid the fee. So after tip, fees, $10 toothbrushing etc I'm charged around $220 when I thought It'd be like $150 max which is already overpriced for a small dog grooming. Why would anyone go here over petco or petsmart which includes so much more and is only like $90 for same service. Complete rip off. The actual grooming was ok nothing special. You got to disclose credit card service charge and dog size cost before not after as a surprise. I'm never going back.

My six year old Bichon was accused of trying to bite the groomer and the groomer claimed that she didn’t feel safe finishing the job. This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. He doesn’t even bite back when other dogs in the dog park bite his hair. The groomer also claimed that my dog wouldn’t stop barking. But when I got there to pick him up I stood outside for a few minutes and didn’t even hear him whine. He only started barking when he heard me talking. I know my dog isn’t the most cooperative dog to groom because he doesn’t like to stand for a long time and would always tries to sit down. But saying that he bites people is a very serious accusation that I have never heard from any of his previous groomers. If this groomer doesn’t know how to calm a nervous dog she should reconsider her profession. One other thing I noticed is that they told me my dog needs 2-3 hours to groom but their next client is scheduled just 1 hours after me. When I went to pick up my dog, the groomer was still working on the dog before mine. So my assumption is that she just wants to skip a not so easy dog since her schedule is so packed. Extremely unprofessional. Absolutely do not recommend.

Great communication! Today was my first time bringing my bichon poodle. He was treated well and he came out looking gorgeous. They really made sure to understand the look I wanted and they nailed it! Definitely got a return costumer.

Veronica is the regular groomer for Lucy and my girl always come out looking beautiful. Lucy and Veronica have created a bond and I can see that both enjoy their time together. Veronica is meticulous and pays attention to details such as her eyes, ears teeth and age growths that protrude from her coat. I am always confident in leaving Lucy in Veronica's care.

Excellent groomers on Thursday. The lady is professional, and our puppy comes out happy. Other days are a bit hit'n'miss, which is not great considering the price. $$$

Frequently Asked Questions About Cat Grooming

What should I expect during a professional cat grooming session?

A typical professional cat grooming session usually begins with a consultation to discuss your cat's needs. The groomer will then examine your cat's coat and skin condition before proceeding with services like brushing to remove loose fur, bathing with cat-specific shampoo, blow-drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and any specialized haircuts if needed. Most sessions take between 1-2 hours depending on your cat's coat condition and temperament.

How should I prepare my cat for a grooming appointment?

To prepare your cat for grooming, brush them at home a few days before to remove loose fur and minor tangles. Keep your cat in a secure carrier for transportation. Arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork and allow your cat time to adjust to the new environment. Bring information about your cat's health, temperament, and any areas they're sensitive about. For anxious cats, consider withholding food for 2-3 hours before the appointment to reduce the risk of stress-related nausea.

Why is professional cat grooming important?

Professional cat grooming is important for several reasons: it reduces shedding and hairballs, prevents painful matting, allows early detection of skin issues or parasites, keeps your cat's coat healthy and shiny, reduces dander (helpful for allergy sufferers), and maintains proper hygiene. Professional groomers have specialized tools, products, and techniques to safely handle cats, even those with behavioral challenges. Regular grooming also helps cats become more comfortable with handling, which is beneficial for veterinary visits.

How often should my cat be professionally groomed?

The frequency of professional grooming depends on your cat's coat type, length, and lifestyle. Long-haired breeds like Persians typically need grooming every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting. Medium-haired cats may need grooming every 6-8 weeks, while short-haired cats might only need professional attention every 8-12 weeks or during seasonal shedding periods. Cats with special conditions like obesity or arthritis that prevent self-grooming may need more frequent appointments. Your groomer can recommend an appropriate schedule based on your cat's specific needs.

What's the difference between cat and dog grooming?

Cat grooming differs significantly from dog grooming. Cats have more sensitive skin, requiring gentler handling and cat-specific products. Their grooming sessions are typically shorter to minimize stress. Cats often need specialized restraint techniques and quieter environments. Cat groomers use different tools designed for feline coats and are trained to recognize signs of stress unique to cats. Cat-only grooming facilities eliminate the anxiety many cats experience around dogs, creating a more comfortable experience for your feline friend.
