Reviews

Overall, customer reviews of The Cats Meow reflect a significant divide in satisfaction levels. Many customers praised the grooming staff for their professionalism, knowledgeable service, and the low-stress environment they create for cats, noting positive experiences in grooming and boarding and expressing commitment to continuing their patronage. However, a few customers reported distressing experiences related to the business's strict grooming policies and lack of clear communication, particularly regarding appointment frequency requirements. This inconsistency in service experiences highlights potential areas for improvement in customer relations, while the majority maintain high regard for the quality of grooming services provided.

Setting up the initial consultation was easy and booking the follow up grooming session was also easy. The staff is knowledgeable and responsive to my questions. I felt comfortable taking my cat here to be groomed. I will continue to use them as long as they offer their services!

If I could give less than a one-star, I would. I was super excited when my partner sent me their website and was eager to set up a consultation visit. It may be updated now, but at no point did the website, intake questionnaire, or scheduling phone call go over details of the grooming environment. I had made note that my cat has historically enjoyed the grooming process, I was just looking to find somewhere with greater cat-only grooming services and availability. Additionally, I also made note that I adopted my cat when she was 9 years of age and does not like being around other cats. Maybe it is my own misunderstanding of what a grooming experience entails, but with my other cat-specific grooming appointments, there were not 4+ other cats free roaming the front and back of house. This caused my cat quite a bit of anxiety and I was inadequately prepared for this as again, there had been no indication of this in my prior interactions with the business. Due to my cat's anxiety, I was told that they would not consider bathing or grooming her further until she had another "consult" appointment in another few months. Not only am I not receiving the service that I sought out, but I am now having to pay $70 a nail trim for my cat to potentially be deemed worthy enough to receive a bath. I will not be returning and instead returning back to my local Petco even though they have very limited appointment availability. They are far more personable at chain stores/groomers than what I experienced here. I'm glad others have had positive experiences but just wanted to express my frustrations in case it is helpful to anyone considering supporting this business.

We have been boarding our kitties with them for 3 years now and consistently they deliver a great service. Our cats come back home happy and well fed and they always answer our phone calls if we have any questions and are super accommodating. We are very thankful for them

Amazing Job!!! I wish I could give this team 20 stars. This was my kitty's first groom since we adopted her. With her shedding her winter coat she kept having issues with pooping on her fur since it is longer in the back. Not only did they help my kitty calm down (she was so nervous she peed her carrier) but they were able to complete the full bath, nails, and trim! Will be taking my kitty back in a few months to keep practicing and get her more confident and comfortable with the process. Not only does she smell great, but now shes all trimmed up so I dont have to be running after her trying to get clumps out. Also shes so silky soft now!

Penny has been a client here for a few years. When we first adopted her she had terrible issues with dingleberries sticking to her fur. We tried taking care of it ourselves, and have the scars to show for it 😅 Somehow, these folks have the magic touch. Penny obviously knows where she’s going every couple months, and she doesn’t seem freaked out at all on the car ride over. We’ve boarded her a couple times as well, and she seemed happy as ever when we picked her up. Love Cat’s Meow!

The groomers here provide excellent quality services for grooming! I have had my medium/long haired cat groomed here 3 times now and each time I'm impressed! The grooming is always clean and they pay attention to detail. I've never seen any missed areas or choppy/rough areas. The groomers are dedicated to provide a low stress environment for the cats they care for and make you feel welcome in their office at all times. The office is always clean and welcoming. Well worth the prices they charge! You won't regret getting your feline groomed here!

I brought my medium hair tabby, Teddy, to see Katie at The Cats Meow. Teddy had been developing a lot of knots over the last year and normal brushing was not enough to keep up with his knots. He hated getting them cut off and I was always nervous to cut them off. I decided it was time for a lion cut and did my research. The Cats Meow was the only highly recommend Cats Only groomers near me. I called and spoke to Jennifer, I scheduled for a Saturday 3 weeks out as that was the soonest weekend availability and sent in my vaccination certs. Day of I dropped him off and an hour later I received a text saying Teddy was ready for pickup. Katie did an amazing job and said Teddy did great. I will definitely be back and highly recommend The Cats Meow.

Ratchet was so much happier after her lion cut. Both she and I have a really hard time keeping up with her grooming, so we decided to bring her in. We will be back regularly to keep it up. She is so very cuddly now and purrs more. She is usually terrified of new people, but the staff must be cat whisperers because both times I’ve taken her in they said she did well. She won’t tolerate a bath, and I appreciate that they didn’t push her. We will be back every 4 months or so. :)

we have been a client over the last 3+ years as the owners of a Himalayan cat who loves a good grooming. we typically do the lion cut and it lasts about 6-8 months. sometimes we can even go longer if his hair doesn't get clumpy. when we wanted to bring him back in for a cut, we attempted to make an appt and were told we don't follow their 6 month policy meaning you have to be a customer who is seen a minimum of twice a year (I can clip his nails on my own). maybe they could add a charge to your service if you don't come as frequent but to just be turned away? I was also told I was a "no show" as well which I have zero record of. they basically declined my business and said I don't follow their policies and don't need or want us as a customer. I have never seen a more ignorant or flippant business model and am shocked to be treated this way as a former and longstanding customer. I would understand "we aren't taking new clients" but this is unbelievable to be treated this way and I am shocked a business would do this. seems like turning away customers is a poor way to do business! I will also be reporting this to the BBB as there was no attempt at a proper resolve and proactive and clear communication.

We used this grooming salon a few times when our cat’s matting got out of control. They would shave him down and he’d be fine for 5-6 months at least. This time I was able to wait longer before calling. I called today to make an appointment for my cat after a year of grooming him at home. However, they refused to see my cat EVER AGAIN because we apparently needed to bring him in every 6 months or we’d be blacklisted forever. Like
what?! The woman on the phone did a terrible job explaining why this was the policy, and refused to make any exceptions. I honestly don’t get why they would do this! There was no reminder notice about going over the 6-month date and they said they had “too many clients” to send out reminders. If you have that strong of a policy, it should be VERY CLEAR and they should remind customers at every visit, as well as send out notices. I can’t recommend using them for these reasons.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cat Grooming

What should I expect during a professional cat grooming session?

A typical professional cat grooming session usually begins with a consultation to discuss your cat's needs. The groomer will then examine your cat's coat and skin condition before proceeding with services like brushing to remove loose fur, bathing with cat-specific shampoo, blow-drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and any specialized haircuts if needed. Most sessions take between 1-2 hours depending on your cat's coat condition and temperament.

How should I prepare my cat for a grooming appointment?

To prepare your cat for grooming, brush them at home a few days before to remove loose fur and minor tangles. Keep your cat in a secure carrier for transportation. Arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork and allow your cat time to adjust to the new environment. Bring information about your cat's health, temperament, and any areas they're sensitive about. For anxious cats, consider withholding food for 2-3 hours before the appointment to reduce the risk of stress-related nausea.

Why is professional cat grooming important?

Professional cat grooming is important for several reasons: it reduces shedding and hairballs, prevents painful matting, allows early detection of skin issues or parasites, keeps your cat's coat healthy and shiny, reduces dander (helpful for allergy sufferers), and maintains proper hygiene. Professional groomers have specialized tools, products, and techniques to safely handle cats, even those with behavioral challenges. Regular grooming also helps cats become more comfortable with handling, which is beneficial for veterinary visits.

How often should my cat be professionally groomed?

The frequency of professional grooming depends on your cat's coat type, length, and lifestyle. Long-haired breeds like Persians typically need grooming every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting. Medium-haired cats may need grooming every 6-8 weeks, while short-haired cats might only need professional attention every 8-12 weeks or during seasonal shedding periods. Cats with special conditions like obesity or arthritis that prevent self-grooming may need more frequent appointments. Your groomer can recommend an appropriate schedule based on your cat's specific needs.

What's the difference between cat and dog grooming?

Cat grooming differs significantly from dog grooming. Cats have more sensitive skin, requiring gentler handling and cat-specific products. Their grooming sessions are typically shorter to minimize stress. Cats often need specialized restraint techniques and quieter environments. Cat groomers use different tools designed for feline coats and are trained to recognize signs of stress unique to cats. Cat-only grooming facilities eliminate the anxiety many cats experience around dogs, creating a more comfortable experience for your feline friend.
