Reviews

Overall, customer satisfaction with City Tails is largely positive, particularly regarding their dog grooming and daycare services. Many reviews highlight the friendly and accommodating staff, who effectively manage nervous pets and provide great grooming results, often leaving dogs looking clean and styled. However, a few negative experiences emphasize significant issues with grooming accuracy and communication, particularly regarding cat care and appointment scheduling, leading to disappointment and frustration for some customers. Despite these criticisms, the majority of feedback reflects a trust in the quality of service provided for dogs, with several customers expressing their loyalty to City Tails.

My mini Aussie used to go to Petco, but every time, they said they couldn’t finish because he is a “sassy boy.” I started bringing him to City Tails and they have actually told me he does very well during grooming. They have taken the anxiety out of it for both me and my dog! 5 stars all around!

Super great place, very friendly staff. My dog was very clean and styled when she was done. A lot of groomers she's been to in the past trim her too short but they got her coat looking perfect. Well be back again for sure. Thx!

Horrible experience. Do not go. I brought my Aussie-doodle puppy here for his first ever haircut. I asked for a “ puppy cut” trim and expressed to them how much we love his long shaggy fur and that we were bringing him for his first ever trim. They shaved his beautiful curly fur down to his skin. Before the cut, he still had his puppy fur and absolutely no knots so this shave was absurd, shocking, and not at all necessary. Not to mention, this was in October and weather was getting cold. I called to speak to the groomer once I calmed down to see if the mistake was what I asked for and they stood by their statement that this is what a puppy cut is. Disgusted, I spoke with many other doodle parents and groomers over the last year and all agreed that was absolutely NOT a puppy cut. This was nearly a year ago and I am still upset with their service. Do NOT bring your dog here.

Love City Tails with all my heart. My dog attends doggy daycare here 5 days a week. They take great care of all the dogs, are super communicative, and very reliable. Doesn’t hurt that they’re the most affordable doggy daycare around. We love city tails!!

Really love these folks. Our previous Springer was traumatized by a different groomer and panicked each time we tried to have him groomed. When we found City Tails, they had me stay with him and he was able to be bathed and groomed. We used them for the last years of his life and they were always kind and gentle with him, and he looked great! Now we have a young Springer who is super chill about grooming. We leave him for a daycare -groom day and he gets to play with the other dogs, go to the dog park, and is clean and tidy at pick up.

Great experience! I called the Monday of Thanksgiving week frantically looking for a trim for my pup and they got me in early Wednesday morning, no issue. Beans only gets groomed once a year so she tends to be a little nervous and so do I- the staff was super helpful, talked me through the cut they’d give her, and told me she’d be all set in a couple of hours. I went to pick her up and was greeted by some happy labs just coming back from their walk despite the rain, great to know that their staff isn’t put off by the weather any more than the dogs are! Beans came back to me with the cutest trim and a great seasonal bandana, happy as a clam. Thank you so much to City Tails!

We've been using city tails for about 2 years to help us keep our pup groomed (currently 3 years old lab mix, 50lb). They've always been so patient and kind, especially since our pup can be a bit nervous and does not enjoy the groomers. They always return her clean, with a cute bandana, make decent progress with her nails despite her fake cries (on-going battle of human v puppy), and are gentle drying her since she hates the blow dryer. I recommend anyone looking for a groomer to give them a chance!

I usually bring my cat to a grooming place that specializes more in cats. Because they are more connected, have an understanding, and are compassionate. I trusted them with my cat. They avoided cutting fur off his midsection because of his loose skin which is understandable. What I want to know is why did they forget the part in telling me they accidentally nicked his skin?! I’m very disappointed. He doesn’t smell like he was washed, still shedding more than usual, also has dry patches towards his back. Which he hasn’t had before.Never in my years of taking him to different groomers did he have this type of issue. I had a gut feeling that he wasn’t supposed come for his appointment. Sadly I know why. Due to their poor negligence to an elder cat. I will not be coming here anymore. They deserve no stars!!! Idk how they do with dogs but I could see that they don’t really care too much for cats by judge of character. To groomers in general .If you don’t have any desire to give equal respect to both cats as much as you do for dogs. DO NOT BOTHER TRYING TO INCLUDE CAT GROOMING IN YOUR TITLE OF WORK.

I had an appointment time, which I confirmed multiple times when I made it 6 WEEKS ago and put on my calendar while still on the phone with them. It was either written down in their book wrong, or it was changed and no one told me. When we arrived for the appointment, we were told we had missed it (they had it written for an hour earlier), and they initially wouldn't reschedule. After a fight, I finally got a new appointment for 9 days from now. And a scolding to "write it down this time". This would have been my first appointment. Instead, I will never be taking my dog there. I can handle a mistake. Being treated rudely because THEY made a mistake is not something I'll be paying $85 for.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cat Grooming

What should I expect during a professional cat grooming session?

A typical professional cat grooming session usually begins with a consultation to discuss your cat's needs. The groomer will then examine your cat's coat and skin condition before proceeding with services like brushing to remove loose fur, bathing with cat-specific shampoo, blow-drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and any specialized haircuts if needed. Most sessions take between 1-2 hours depending on your cat's coat condition and temperament.

How should I prepare my cat for a grooming appointment?

To prepare your cat for grooming, brush them at home a few days before to remove loose fur and minor tangles. Keep your cat in a secure carrier for transportation. Arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork and allow your cat time to adjust to the new environment. Bring information about your cat's health, temperament, and any areas they're sensitive about. For anxious cats, consider withholding food for 2-3 hours before the appointment to reduce the risk of stress-related nausea.

Why is professional cat grooming important?

Professional cat grooming is important for several reasons: it reduces shedding and hairballs, prevents painful matting, allows early detection of skin issues or parasites, keeps your cat's coat healthy and shiny, reduces dander (helpful for allergy sufferers), and maintains proper hygiene. Professional groomers have specialized tools, products, and techniques to safely handle cats, even those with behavioral challenges. Regular grooming also helps cats become more comfortable with handling, which is beneficial for veterinary visits.

How often should my cat be professionally groomed?

The frequency of professional grooming depends on your cat's coat type, length, and lifestyle. Long-haired breeds like Persians typically need grooming every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting. Medium-haired cats may need grooming every 6-8 weeks, while short-haired cats might only need professional attention every 8-12 weeks or during seasonal shedding periods. Cats with special conditions like obesity or arthritis that prevent self-grooming may need more frequent appointments. Your groomer can recommend an appropriate schedule based on your cat's specific needs.

What's the difference between cat and dog grooming?

Cat grooming differs significantly from dog grooming. Cats have more sensitive skin, requiring gentler handling and cat-specific products. Their grooming sessions are typically shorter to minimize stress. Cats often need specialized restraint techniques and quieter environments. Cat groomers use different tools designed for feline coats and are trained to recognize signs of stress unique to cats. Cat-only grooming facilities eliminate the anxiety many cats experience around dogs, creating a more comfortable experience for your feline friend.
