Reviews
Overall, customers express high levels of satisfaction with Ravenswoof, highlighting the exceptional grooming services provided by the staff, particularly Julie and Amanda. Many reviewers appreciate the attention to detail, showing that the groomers care for pets and take their time to ensure a positive experience, often resulting in pets looking and feeling fantastic after their appointments. Additionally, the establishment is praised for its new amenities, such as self-wash stations and daycare services, which contribute to a welcoming environment for both dogs and cats. However, one negative review raises serious concerns about care and communication during a grooming incident, emphasizing the importance of trust and safety in pet care services. Despite this, the majority of reviews reflect a strong recommendation for Ravenswoof as a reliable grooming option for pet
One of the best and now even better! Moe and Yo-Yo have been going to Ravenswoof since their old location on Wilson. The groomers are fantastic and Moe and Yo-Yo always look “show ready” when I pick them up. And now, Ravenswoof’s new location offers so much more! They offer self wash stations and provide shampoo, towels and dryers. Additionally, they provide daycare, you can schedule ahead of time or drop-in and schedule hourly or full day. They schedule different activities each day to keep it interesting and fun for the dogs who attend daily. If you require full day daycare daily, they also offer package deals. ❤️🐾🐶
I’ve been seeing Julie and her amazing team at Ravenswoof for the past couple years and she always does such a great job on my boys, Mowgli and Bruno. Bruno is a Brussels Griffon, which requires handstripping. It’s a hard to find someone who offers this service, much less perfect it. Mowgli also has bad knees, so she is patient and does well with him during the grooming process. They always look handsome and are happy to get to their standing 5-week appointments!
My small dog loves coming here for playcare! On our latest Sunday walk my dog led me here and refused to leave (it's closed on Sundays). So glad to find her a home away from home, and in such a welcoming, communicative, professional place!!
Ravenswoof left my cat bleeding after what I thought would be a simple sanitary trim. They did not even bring this to my attention at all after they returned my cat to me after the grooming. I came home and found my cat heavily bleeding in the back after removing him from his carrier. The negligence and lack of care and communication was shocking to me as it seemed like a professional neighborhood grooming business that I could trust. Providing medication or acknowledging their error with the cut/bleeding should have been a bare minimum. Visually also, the trim appeared very rushed and unprofessional, and looked messy. The day after the bleeding incident my cat also had caught a fever (most likely from Ravenswoof, as he is an indoor cat and is also up to date on his vaccinations) and is facing significant symptoms and would not eat, requiring an emergency vet visit. It makes me wonder about the cleanliness of what goes on behind the scenes at this establishment. Frankly I am very disappointed and surprised that such a severe incident could occur from a simple grooming procedure. Our pets health should be a priority, and not taken for granted by businesses that we should be able to trust. If I could rate this 0/5 stars I would.
Where to begin! I'm new to the Chicago area, and I was looking for a good cat groomer for my new cats. Even in Chicago it's kinda hard to find, but I found Ravenswoof after browsing and it looked promising! I scheduled an appointment with Julie the weekend after Christmas for a bath, nail trim and sanitation trim for my three cats. I arrived a little late but Julie took them happily, answered all my questions and left me feeling comfortable knowing my furbabies were in good hands. While they were being originally scheduled to be done around 3:30, they did get pushed back a few hours. After learning Julie was the only one working that weekend because of the holidays, I was in no rush for the cats to be done quickly, I just wanted quality service. Around 6, Julie finished up with my furbabies, and went over some additional work she did to take care of some mats I hasn't seen, as well as making sure my disabled cat had extra care for his sanitation trim. The kittens were ready to head home, but they looked and smelled wonderful, sleek fur and in good spirits. I expected to pay a large sum, but their total was completely under my expectations, an extremely reasonable price for above and beyond care for my kittens. I not only will be returning here but I will be recommending it to anyone who is looking for an excellent groomer who cares deeply for pets. I couldn't be more happy with my choice at Ravenswoof.
I have a medium/long-haired kitty who comes here for grooming. He can be a little anxious to leave the house and he’s never particularly enjoyed brushing at home. We’ve been coming here for a couple years now & we’ve done lion cuts, baths, walk-ins for a nail trim. No matter what he’s needing that visit, Julie does an awesome job with him. I always know he is in good hands with her and we are so thankful!
Have taken our pup to her first two haircuts there, one with Sandy and one with Theresa. Both were great, very kind, and so loving towards our pup. They each listened to what we wanted and did a great job getting our pup used to the experience + taking their time
Update 5 months later.. I still really enjoy the wonderful groomers that work here. I added before/after pictures. My sweet girl had a big day- vet visit and groomers. Amanda made sure to take care of my girl and take her time. Very inclusive with rainbow bandanas for pride month! My cocker spaniel comes out looking FABULOUS every time, without fail! Bring your precious pets here. Amanda and Nick and so kind and welcoming. They'll take care of your dog(s) :) Very wonderful staff. My dog's groomer is Amanda. Amanda takes her time with my sweet 13 year old cocker spaniel. She listens to me when I let her know about new growths to look out for. My dog always comes out of there looking like a superstar. Generally my dog leaves wearing an awesome bandana, but I prefer to have bows on my dog's ears. She looks beautiful, and Amanda always makes sure she includes the bows. As for the website, I love how easy it is to navigate! I love all the services that are provided (for both cats and dogs!). I've referred a number of people here. I'm looking to bring my cat here for a grooming, as well. I trust they'll be patient and kind. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I can't tell you how wonderful everyone has been with our sweet Pretzel. Previously nervous with nail trims and completely unaware of her own size or strength, we worked long and hard to find the right match when it came to nail trims and more. Amanda in particular has completely transformed Pretzel from a big ol' baby girl who was afraid of the clippers (or Dremel) into the way she acts at home: excited, full of love, and (mostly) cooperative. We are so grateful to have found Ravenswoof.
Amanda did a great job on Koda yesterday! Koda came out of the salon looking so cute and comfortable. My boyfriend was surprised how calm she was because she used to come out looking terrified and shaven in random places at our old groomer. She is also sooo soft now and smells good. We will definitely be back.

Call to BookFrequently Asked Questions About Cat Grooming
What should I expect during a professional cat grooming session?
A typical professional cat grooming session usually begins with a consultation to discuss your cat's needs. The groomer will then examine your cat's coat and skin condition before proceeding with services like brushing to remove loose fur, bathing with cat-specific shampoo, blow-drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and any specialized haircuts if needed. Most sessions take between 1-2 hours depending on your cat's coat condition and temperament.
How should I prepare my cat for a grooming appointment?
To prepare your cat for grooming, brush them at home a few days before to remove loose fur and minor tangles. Keep your cat in a secure carrier for transportation. Arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork and allow your cat time to adjust to the new environment. Bring information about your cat's health, temperament, and any areas they're sensitive about. For anxious cats, consider withholding food for 2-3 hours before the appointment to reduce the risk of stress-related nausea.
Why is professional cat grooming important?
Professional cat grooming is important for several reasons: it reduces shedding and hairballs, prevents painful matting, allows early detection of skin issues or parasites, keeps your cat's coat healthy and shiny, reduces dander (helpful for allergy sufferers), and maintains proper hygiene. Professional groomers have specialized tools, products, and techniques to safely handle cats, even those with behavioral challenges. Regular grooming also helps cats become more comfortable with handling, which is beneficial for veterinary visits.
How often should my cat be professionally groomed?
The frequency of professional grooming depends on your cat's coat type, length, and lifestyle. Long-haired breeds like Persians typically need grooming every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting. Medium-haired cats may need grooming every 6-8 weeks, while short-haired cats might only need professional attention every 8-12 weeks or during seasonal shedding periods. Cats with special conditions like obesity or arthritis that prevent self-grooming may need more frequent appointments. Your groomer can recommend an appropriate schedule based on your cat's specific needs.
What's the difference between cat and dog grooming?
Cat grooming differs significantly from dog grooming. Cats have more sensitive skin, requiring gentler handling and cat-specific products. Their grooming sessions are typically shorter to minimize stress. Cats often need specialized restraint techniques and quieter environments. Cat groomers use different tools designed for feline coats and are trained to recognize signs of stress unique to cats. Cat-only grooming facilities eliminate the anxiety many cats experience around dogs, creating a more comfortable experience for your feline friend.
