Reviews
Overall, customer satisfaction with Dashing Dog is high, with many reviewers praising the quality of service and the attentive staff. Many customers appreciate the personalized touches, such as Polaroid photos and toys after grooming, which contribute to a positive experience. Groomers like Emilia and Maya receive specific praise for their skills and patience with dogs, ensuring comfort and meeting grooming requests. However, there are notable complaints regarding miscommunication and execution of grooming preferences, particularly concerning hair length, which has led to some disappointing experiences for a few customers.
I’ve taken my golden retriever to dashing dog a few times now and each time has been a great experience! This last time we had Maya, who did an amazing job with the cut and overall grooming. We asked for a puppy cut with a little more off around the hygienic areas and they followed our wishes exactly. He loves getting the little toy at the end, which is a nice touch. They’re super convenient with the online scheduling and often can get him in within a few days of checking their schedule. I had previously been taking him to PUPS Pet Club, which was more expensive, and found I always had to book 3-4 weeks in advance and play phone tag with the receptionist. This is much easier and flexible. Definitely recommend!
I brought my puppy to have his very first haircut at 6 months old and I'm blown away at their service. As a first time dog momma, I brought a small ziplock and asked for the groomer to put some of his baby fur in it for sentimental reasons. They completely understood and sent home so much fur! Not only did they fulfill my request, they also did an impeccable job. His groomer Stanley was so patient through all his puppy wiggles and really took the time to get any matting out of the longer pieces of fur. I am so thankful to have such qualified groomers in the neighborhood and we will most certainly be back!
Grooming Experience** I recently brought both of my Bernedoodles to Dashing Dogs for grooming, but unfortunately, the experience was unsatisfactory. During the check-in process, I provided a detailed description of the grooming preferences for both dogs. However, the groomer who worked on Roscoe inadvertently trimmed off his beautiful eyelashes and trimmed his legs too short. While I acknowledged that these minor issues are not ideal, they deviated from the grooming preferences I had specified. Daisy’s haircut was particularly disastrous. In addition to cutting off her long eyelashes, the groomer also trimmed her hair too short and removed all the hair from her tail. During the take-in discussion, I requested that the tail be trimmed, demonstrating the desired length. Unfortunately, the groomer misunderstood my request and shaved Daisy’s tail completely bald. It looks like a 5 year old got hold of the clippers. Despite my disappointment, the groomer expressed regret for the miscommunication. However, the check-in person dismissed the issue with the remark, “Oh well, it will grow back.” While it is true that the hair will regrow, the current state of Daisy’s haircut is unacceptable. I should not have been charged for the services rendered.
We went to the Dashing Dog location in West Loop (612 W. Lake) and the service was absolutely impeccable. They give mystery boxes and the atmosphere was really nice and clean. They did a wonderful job on Hero, especially since that was his first time getting professionally groomed. His groomer Emilia was wonderful and made sure he was comfortable. We will definitely be back!
Love love love dashing dog! Charlie did a great job on lady’s cut and got exactly what I asked for! Booking is very easy to get into. Every groom comes with a small toy and a Polaroid of the hair cut! I’ve been coming here almost 2 years and will definitely continue to. Majority of my friends also use Dashingdog and all love them as well!
I’m honestly so upset even thinking about writing this review but I feel like I should so that other dog owners can be informed before going to Dashing Dog. We’ve been taking our 9 month old puppy here to get the bath grooming package. We keep his hair long and have been waiting months to trim it. When it finally came time for a trim, I called Dashing Dog to ask if they felt comfortable doing a trim on a long haired dog. I was very thorough on the phone, told them exactly what I wanted and emphasized that it was truly no problem if it wasn’t something in their wheelhouse. I know not everyone is comfortable or experienced when cutting long hair on dogs. I would’ve been more than happy to look elsewhere, I simply thought since it’s a local place and we go there for his baths that I’d like to continue supporting them if they felt comfortable doing it. On the phone when booking I told them I wanted a light dusting, no more than an inch on his longer pieces and to just slightly trim up the areas that are already on the shorter side. When I got to Dashing Dog the receptionist informed me she wasn’t there when I made the booking so she asked me what I wanted again. I repeated the same thing - I emphasized so many times that I wanted it to be the lightest little dusting & trim. I mentioned again that this is the first time we are trimming any of his hair, that I was also very nervous because I like his long hair, and to not take off more than an inch on his longer pieces. When I came in to get my puppy I was shocked. The receptionist could see I was upset and she went to talk with the groomer. I’ll leave pictures of the before and after of my dog because they speak for themselves. My main issue, and the reason I'm so upset, is because I asked ahead of time. I asked if they were comfortable, if it was something they are experienced with, and if there was someone specific that we should book with. I wouldn’t have had one problem with finding someone else. I not only asked, I had an incredibly thorough conversation where they reassured me on the phone that it was something they do quite frequently because “a lot of dog owners like the fluffy look.” He doesn’t even look like the same dog. First 6 pictures are of him before the cut. The last one is after.
Listen… I wanted my haircut here! Dashing Dog in Lakeview is a warm, friendly place. I was immediately greeted by Renee and Mack, and they walked me through the process as a new customer. They asked detailed questions about what I wanted for my precious baby angel, and she was gently whisked to a clean studio I was able to see from the desk. Emelia did an absolutely fantastic job with Marsha’s haircut. Emelia was very attentive to details, and did not let Marsha leave without looking like the Cutest Gal on Clark Street™️. I will absolutely return. 5/5 customer experience. Bonus: They do Polaroids when the appointment is finished. I mean, come on?!
I’ve been taking my dog Chico to the Dashing Dog regularly and we’ve always had a great experience there. I love their personal touch with the photo and a toy that they give you after the grooming. Chico’s groomer Emiliia always does such a wonderful job with his grooming and Chico loves her as he comes back home looking happy and handsome. I highly recommend the Dashing Dog.
Our Sadie has been getting groomed at Dashing Dog since it opened and we have always been very satisfied with the service. Her groomer, Andrea is exceptional with our rather robust pup and Sadie loves her time with her and the staff at Dashing Dog! If your looking for a great groomer look no further!
I’ve been taking my guy Leo to Dashing Dog since I got him last year! Emilia is our favorite!!!! She cares so much about Leo and treats him like he’s her own. She always makes sure to take plenty of time to get him comfortable and groomed how we like it. Leo pulls towards dashing dog any time we walk by and has such positive associations with it! I also like how we can sit and watch the groom because there’s a glass window and there’s coffee, tea etc and comfortable chairs. The special touch of the Polaroid photo + a surprise (usually a fun toy or poop bag holder!) makes Dashing Dog our #1 and only choice for our boy. Thank you Emiliia 🥰

Call to BookFrequently Asked Questions About Cat Grooming
What should I expect during a professional cat grooming session?
A typical professional cat grooming session usually begins with a consultation to discuss your cat's needs. The groomer will then examine your cat's coat and skin condition before proceeding with services like brushing to remove loose fur, bathing with cat-specific shampoo, blow-drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and any specialized haircuts if needed. Most sessions take between 1-2 hours depending on your cat's coat condition and temperament.
How should I prepare my cat for a grooming appointment?
To prepare your cat for grooming, brush them at home a few days before to remove loose fur and minor tangles. Keep your cat in a secure carrier for transportation. Arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork and allow your cat time to adjust to the new environment. Bring information about your cat's health, temperament, and any areas they're sensitive about. For anxious cats, consider withholding food for 2-3 hours before the appointment to reduce the risk of stress-related nausea.
Why is professional cat grooming important?
Professional cat grooming is important for several reasons: it reduces shedding and hairballs, prevents painful matting, allows early detection of skin issues or parasites, keeps your cat's coat healthy and shiny, reduces dander (helpful for allergy sufferers), and maintains proper hygiene. Professional groomers have specialized tools, products, and techniques to safely handle cats, even those with behavioral challenges. Regular grooming also helps cats become more comfortable with handling, which is beneficial for veterinary visits.
How often should my cat be professionally groomed?
The frequency of professional grooming depends on your cat's coat type, length, and lifestyle. Long-haired breeds like Persians typically need grooming every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting. Medium-haired cats may need grooming every 6-8 weeks, while short-haired cats might only need professional attention every 8-12 weeks or during seasonal shedding periods. Cats with special conditions like obesity or arthritis that prevent self-grooming may need more frequent appointments. Your groomer can recommend an appropriate schedule based on your cat's specific needs.
What's the difference between cat and dog grooming?
Cat grooming differs significantly from dog grooming. Cats have more sensitive skin, requiring gentler handling and cat-specific products. Their grooming sessions are typically shorter to minimize stress. Cats often need specialized restraint techniques and quieter environments. Cat groomers use different tools designed for feline coats and are trained to recognize signs of stress unique to cats. Cat-only grooming facilities eliminate the anxiety many cats experience around dogs, creating a more comfortable experience for your feline friend.
