We love Bark of the Town! Our dog Angus is a big Newfoundland/Poodle mix. He goes once a month and gets so excited to see Casey every time. They do a fantastic job and we cannot recommend them enough!

We loved our first experience at Bark of the Town! We just adopted a pup a few days prior to taking her to get a professional grooming. I was so impressed with how our dog looked after her bath and trim. Since we just adopted our dog, we weren't quite sure how she would do at the groomer. The groomer was patient, kind and knowledgeable. They even made sure to note what she did/didn't like and taught us how to make her more comfortable for her next bath. We will definitely be back!

After our past groomer moved out of state, we were left overwhelmed searching for a new groomer for our senior rescue dog who struggles against haircuts. By the time we got scheduled with The Bark of the Town, our girl's hair was far too long and messy. Casey listened to us and took their time with our dog, giving her the patience and short cut she needed to be comfortable. We've scheduled another appt 6 weeks from now and are so happy we have our dog back on a solid groom schedule.

Just moved to the area and needed a new dog groomer for my poodle mix. Casey was so kind and helpful, especially since my dog is very anxious. I was able to provide instructions at drop-off and book another appointment at pick-up. Full bath & cut took about 3 hrs, which was perfect for me to run errands in the meantime.

I've been a loyal customer for almost 10 years. Micheal is an under the radar superstar who is adept at grooming to breed standards and show cuts but also well trained and talented in the creative world of Asian Fusion. To find such a multi-talented maestro of grooming is a rare thing. People stop me and my dog on a regular basis to ask where she is groomed. Excellence shows. The Bark of The Town's "at your door' service makes everything convenient and worthwhile.

Bark of the Town is consistently awesome. We adopted a former show dog about a year ago, and Michael and Fernando have been doing the grooming for our little princess Coco. It is the most convenient thing as I am able to just bring her out in front of my building and they take it from there. It doesn't get any easier than that. They always do an amazing job, and are also really nice people. They really care about what they do, and I always look forward to Coco's grooming day. Coco has an extra pep to her step when Michael and Fernando are finished, like she knows she looks cute. I highly highly recommend Bark of the Town!!!

BotT opened up around the corner from us in uptown and we decided to give them a try. Before our dog, Caju, was ready for a groom we would walk by and Casey was immediately friendly and genuinely working to be part of the neighborhood. When Caju was ready for an appointment we got a more than fair price for the full experience and were thrilled with the results. Casey offered some suggestions on Caju’s look that I didn’t think of and he looked amazing after. Caju doesn’t seem to be traumatized at all and loves to stop by on our walks (the dried lamb treats help I’m sure), and we get to greet Casey when they’re not busy. I’m looking forward to our next appointment and having Casey and BotT be a part of our neighborhood.

I have been a long time customer of Michael’s and hands down, he and Fernando provide the best grooming experience my dogs have experienced in Chicago. First of all, the ease of on site grooming is wonderful. He pulls up outside of my condo and within an hour/hour and a half my pup looks amazing! The van is spotless, heated obviously in the winter and air conditioned in the summer. Both Michael and Fernando are artists with the dogs. They get their cuts just right and take care of your dog as though it were their own. My dog feels very comfortable with either of them. They are reliable, use only the best products for the dogs-my pup has sensitive skin and they take care of that with their hypoallergenic products. I can’t recommend this business enough!

I recently took my dog Manchego to The Bark of the Town in Uptown Chicago, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! We needed to get him cleaned up before our wedding, and Casey did an absolutely amazing job. Manchego had some matted fur, and I was worried he might need a drastic haircut. However, Casey's expert brushing skills saved the day, leaving Manchego looking fluffy without having to cut his hair short. The care and attention to detail were exceptional. I highly recommend The Bark of the Town for anyone looking for top-notch grooming services!

Frequently Asked Questions About Cat Grooming

What should I expect during a professional cat grooming session?

A typical professional cat grooming session usually begins with a consultation to discuss your cat's needs. The groomer will then examine your cat's coat and skin condition before proceeding with services like brushing to remove loose fur, bathing with cat-specific shampoo, blow-drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and any specialized haircuts if needed. Most sessions take between 1-2 hours depending on your cat's coat condition and temperament.

How should I prepare my cat for a grooming appointment?

To prepare your cat for grooming, brush them at home a few days before to remove loose fur and minor tangles. Keep your cat in a secure carrier for transportation. Arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork and allow your cat time to adjust to the new environment. Bring information about your cat's health, temperament, and any areas they're sensitive about. For anxious cats, consider withholding food for 2-3 hours before the appointment to reduce the risk of stress-related nausea.

Why is professional cat grooming important?

Professional cat grooming is important for several reasons: it reduces shedding and hairballs, prevents painful matting, allows early detection of skin issues or parasites, keeps your cat's coat healthy and shiny, reduces dander (helpful for allergy sufferers), and maintains proper hygiene. Professional groomers have specialized tools, products, and techniques to safely handle cats, even those with behavioral challenges. Regular grooming also helps cats become more comfortable with handling, which is beneficial for veterinary visits.

How often should my cat be professionally groomed?

The frequency of professional grooming depends on your cat's coat type, length, and lifestyle. Long-haired breeds like Persians typically need grooming every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting. Medium-haired cats may need grooming every 6-8 weeks, while short-haired cats might only need professional attention every 8-12 weeks or during seasonal shedding periods. Cats with special conditions like obesity or arthritis that prevent self-grooming may need more frequent appointments. Your groomer can recommend an appropriate schedule based on your cat's specific needs.

What's the difference between cat and dog grooming?

Cat grooming differs significantly from dog grooming. Cats have more sensitive skin, requiring gentler handling and cat-specific products. Their grooming sessions are typically shorter to minimize stress. Cats often need specialized restraint techniques and quieter environments. Cat groomers use different tools designed for feline coats and are trained to recognize signs of stress unique to cats. Cat-only grooming facilities eliminate the anxiety many cats experience around dogs, creating a more comfortable experience for your feline friend.
